My husband and I were caught in this same asinine catch 22. We moved to Chicago and decided to use the public transit system (it is quite extensive and much cheaper than the cost of owning a car in a city famous for racketeering and outright corruption). When we looked into buying a car this year, we were told by insurance companies that we were now in the "high risk" group because we had no record of a policy for the past 3 years. Prior to this, we had continuous policies for over 10 years without 1 violation between us. I explained that this would be because we did not own a car and had used mass transit for which I could provide proof of monthly purchase if needed. Believe it or not, the agent on the phone had the audacity to tell me we should have paid premiums on a non-existent object for the past 3 years rather than cancel the policy! I was stunned. Sadly, this was the case for the next 3 agencies I called. Now we are being punished not on our driving records or ages (we are past the 16-25 group), but because we did not participate in their forced profit taking scheme by not owning a car (thus not needing the product). Even after living in a city where overt thievery is a way of life, this one took the cake!
I hear you 100%, we moved from a place that was safe but not fit for out children, in city with more opportunities but big religious discrimination. My husband who has 17 years in works force services can't get a job in the same profession as he is not qualified , but high school graduate is.. I have BS in health care and face the same situation.. it is very sad and much of your examples prove point.. But hang on it can't last, keep your head up
